Claudio Bonilla

Claudio holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, and is an Information and Management Control Engineer from Universidad de Chile. He is currently Full Professor at the School of Economics and Business (FEN) of Universidad de Chile and an economic consultant with over 20 years of experience.

He has been a full member of the Risk Rating Commission and of the Price Advisory Council of CENABAST. He has extensive experience on oversight committees of private investment funds and is listed in the Registry of Directors of the Chilean Pensions Supervisory Authority.

He has served as Vice Dean of Universidad del Desarrollo and as Department Director at Universidad de Chile. He is the author of more than 40 international publications in economics and finance. His distinctions include: Outstanding Graduate in Information and Management Control Engineering, Universidad de Chile (2005), El Mercurio Young Leader (2007), Dean's Chair for High Scientific Productivity (2010-2018) and Outstanding FEN Graduate on the School's 80th anniversary (2015).

He has provided economic consulting in Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia, and has worked with institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Ministry of Finance, the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Undersecretariat of Finance, the Budget Office (DIPRES), CODELCO, the Financial Market Commission (CMF), the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC), the National Energy Commission (CNE), CORFO, INNOVA, SERCOTEC, FOSIS, the Pension Fund Association, ATREX, the Association of Surgeons of the V Region, BancoEstado, the National Chamber of Commerce, Correos de Chile, AFP CUPRUM, AFP Capital, Fundación Emprender, Concesionaria AVO, OHL Concesiones, METROGAS, the Welfare Division of the Chilean Army, the Workers' Union of the former Banco del Desarrollo, Mejor Niñez, NAVIMAG Carga, Salares de Chile (a CODELCO subsidiary), Inversiones Quinchamalí, Inversiones Tano, Minera Centinela (AMSA Group), Club Hípico de Punta Arenas and AmiPASS, among other investment companies across various economic sectors.

He is an expert in the estimation of economic damages, business valuation and applied microeconomics. He has prepared expert reports for proceedings before the civil and criminal courts, the Santiago Chamber of Commerce Arbitration and Mediation Center (CAM), the CMF and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. He has experience in disputes involving the financial, shipping, energy and insurance markets, as well as in human rights matters, currency forward markets, tax and customs issues, and antitrust, among others.

He has taken part in cases of high public profile, such as the Cascadas Case, the economic assessment of the Codelco-SQM agreement, and the claim brought by the Chañaral teachers before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, a proceeding that concluded with USD 94 million in compensation for 846 teachers.
